Wendy Sullivan
Mixed media assemblage
Wendy Sullivan is a Jacksonville, Florida based artist who defines herself as a "re-use" artist. The materials that she employs for her work are things that others might deem trash. Although some of the items she uses are, in fact, trash — shattered car parts, food containers and defunct technology — she also uses forgotten treasures sourced from thrift stores and estate sales.
Wendy says, "I try not to use things that I'm the first owner of — I like to imagine that the pieces in my artwork had a life before I got them and now aren't useful for that purpose. I take these broken, lost, or discarded items and give them a second life." The themes of accumulation and the symbology of objects are what fuel Wendy's work. She exhibits with several art guilds including the Art Guild of Orange Park, FemArt, the Gainesville Fine Arts Association and the Jacksonville Art Guild, as well as independent exhibitions.
