Portrait of Mary Walker

Mary Walker

Watercolor · oil, pastel

Originally from Ohio, Mary moved to Jacksonville in 1986 with her husband Ed and made Florida her permanent home. An oil portrait artist and watercolorist, her paintings are of places she has been and subjects that interest her. She enjoys painting plein-air and comments, "I like to create illusion and allow the viewer to interpret what they see. My goal is to paint with loose control."

Because of her love of Florida lizards and tree frogs, they are hidden in her Florida paintings since 2001, and the name of Jesus has appeared in her paintings since 1999. Mary has studied with well-known artists including Donna Garven, Margaret Twitchel Swank, Kinley Shoengren, Pat Lust, Courtney Hunt, Hercel Stallard, Pat Weaver and Richard Adam. Mary has been a member of the Art Guild of Orange Park since 1996, and is a member of the Jacksonville Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society.
